Celebrating Liturgical Seasons
Growing by Experiencing the Feasts and Seasons of the Church Year
What is Lent all about? Why do Christians receive ashes on Ash Wednesday? Why 40 days? If you’re looking for answers, you’ve come to the right place. Busted Halo explains the significance of this season of prayer, fasting, and giving, and how you can make the most of this time of repentance and renewal.

REND YOUR HEARTS: HOW TO BREAK YOUR HEART THIS LENT
"I wonder: what is the point of penitential practices during Lent? And is there anything that I can do to make my Lent more meaningful, to bring about real change in myself?"
"Lent, then, is not merely a time of atoning for sins, it’s a time of preparation. We prepare to become again at Pascha what we were once baptized into: Christ’s own body. We practice, for forty days, habits which break us open, let God in, and train us to love like Christ. Lent is the forty day process of rending our hearts, filling the broken places with God’s love, and fearlessly loving as Christ loved."

Scripture Reflections and Artwork
Each week of Lent and Easter, we will upload a new reflection resource on our "Breaking Open The Word" page. There you will find a prayer, illustration, and a reflection on the Sunday Scripture and a reflection for each weekday-about the day's Scripture, saint, or Catholic practices, along with a smaller illustration. Citations for Scripture readings are included with each day.

Lenten Resources and Devotionals
Living Well Through Lent 2024:
Practicing Forgiveness With All Your Heart, Soul, Strength, and Mind This devotional is intended to be used for daily personal reflection as we journey through Lent. We begin each Sunday with a reflection written by one of the guest writers. Every other day of the week begins with Scripture or a quote, followed by a reflection, and then “Making it Personal” questions, which offer an opportunity for you to reflect on the readings as they relate to your own life and spiritual journey
Living Compass offers several ways to participate in this Lenten program:

In a world filled with personal and structural sin that allows injustice to grow, we are invited to refresh our souls and our imaginations to make space for the Spirit to work through us:
To reshape a dehumanizing immigration system into one that centers human dignity. To recommit to making racial justice a reality. To renew trust in abundance versus scarcity so that all people’s needs are met while safeguarding a fragile planet. During the Lenten season, Psalm 23 reminds us of God’s intent that we find times of refreshing: Beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul. St. Ignatius of Loyola refers to these times of refreshing as consolations: a deep-seated sense of God’s presence leading to spiritual growth. How are we being refreshed and consoled in our lives, in our Church, and in our work for justice? Throughout Lent, writers from the Ignatian network will guide us in a season of refreshing. Join us each day to be replenished, reinvigorated, and refreshed. |
Living Lent Daily
If we give ourselves fully to prayer and reflection, the days of Lent provide a wonderful opportunity to discover God’s will. Explore how to listen for God’s voice through Living Lent Daily, an e-mail series inspired by God’s Voice Within by Mark E. Thibodeaux, SJ. Each day you’ll receive a message with an excerpt from the book, a prayer experience, or a reflection on discernment and decision-making.
Spend time each day developing your spiritual intuition and taking steps to discern God’s will for you. The messages also include suggestions for further exploration of Lenten themes through additional online articles and prayers. Sign up to receive the daily messages via e-mail from Ash Wednesday, February 14, 2024, through Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. The messages will come from the Year in Our Church from Loyola Press. |
