Celebrating Liturgical Seasons
Growing by Experiencing the Feasts and Seasons of the Church Year
Christmas Time and Easter Time highlight the central mysteries of the Paschal Mystery, namely, the incarnation, death on the cross, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ, and the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The Sundays and weeks of Ordinary Time, on the other hand, take us through the life of Christ. This is the time of conversion. This is living the life of Christ.
Ordinary Time is a time for growth and maturation, a time in which the mystery of Christ is called to penetrate ever more deeply into history until all things are finally caught up in Christ. The goal, toward which all of history is directed, is represented by the final Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. What do All Saints Day and Halloween have in common?
It’s downright “scary” how much James Martin, SJ knows about the saints, so who better to explain the connection between Halloween and All Saints Day? In this whimsical video, BustedHalo.com, an online magazine for spiritual seekers, asked Fr. Martin to explain how these two back-to-back days relate to each other. The best-selling author of My Life with the Saints also answers such common questions as, How does someone become a saint? What is a patron saint? and Do Catholics worship the saints? Courtesy of Busted Halo.

All Saints' Day is a solemn holy day of the Catholic Church celebrated annually on November 1. The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that is, all those who have attained heaven. It should not be confused with All Souls' Day, which is observed on November 2, and is dedicated to those who have died and not yet reached heaven.
Although millions, or even billions of people may already be saints, All Saints' Day observances tend to focus on known saints --that is those recognized in the canon of the saints by the Catholic Church. |

This ancient prayer is having a providential revival, thanks also to the example and teaching of Pope John Paul II, particularly his Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae.
